About Us
The Islamophobia Legal Assistance Hotline (ILAH) is dedicated to fostering understanding and combating Islamophobia through legal assistance referrals to address the harmful impacts of Islamophobia on individuals and society at large.
Project Overview
The ILAH Steering Committee is seeking an experienced Islamophobia research contractor to help facilitate a new knowledge initiative, the Reporting Islamophobia project.
“Reporting Islamophobia” is a project that seeks to canvas how reports about Islamophobia are gathered at present by Statistics Canada, civic organizations, community groups (if any) and how this information is collated and reported to the public. Upon conducting the preliminary findings, the research contractor will help prepare and print informational brochures that will be distributed across British Columbia in various languages.
The contractor should have the requisite research background with experience working with the Muslim community to conduct focus groups to gather information and create a report illustrating the findings.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Experience conducting original research
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to the Muslim community
- Cultural sensitivity to communities impacted by Islamophobia
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to travel within the Lower Mainland
Main Responsibilities
- Organize two focus groups in British Columbia that include participants from diverse backgrounds.
- Consolidate findings from focus groups and create a brochure. Additionally, the candidate will also help translate the brochures in various languages.
- Organize an event to launch the brochure.
- Distribute brochures to community groups, legal aid groups, and immigrant settlement agencies, etc. across British Columbia.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with communities and organizations challenging Islamophobia.
- Work with the Islamophobia Legal Assistance Hotline and other collaborating partners.
