Watch the World Cup Together at Collaburo: Bring Your Family and Friends to Cheer On Your Team
Written by CollabüroFor many of us, the FIFA World Cup is about much more than soccer.
It is about family gatherings in living rooms, crowded cafés filled with anticipation, and friendly debates about who will lift the trophy. It is about cheering for the countries of our birth, our parents' homelands, or the nations that have become our adopted homes. It is about culture, identity, and community.
Ottawa's Muslim community reflects the diversity of the global Ummah. From Morocco and Algeria to Egypt, Pakistan, Türkiye, Bosnia, Somalia, Nigeria, and beyond, World Cup season often brings people together across generations and backgrounds in a way few events can.
Beginning Friday June 12, Collaburo Coworking & Events Space in Ottawa's Little Italy will be opening its doors to individuals, families, and soccer enthusiasts looking for a welcoming, family-friendly environment to enjoy selected World Cup matches together.
The goal is simple: create a positive gathering space where people can experience the excitement of the tournament alongside others from across the community.
A Family-Friendly Viewing Experience
Collaburo is a community-oriented venue that regularly hosts professional, educational, cultural, and community events throughout the year. During the World Cup, selected matches will be shown in a comfortable and welcoming environment suitable for families and community members alike.
All are welcome, regardless of faith, to join us in an alchohol-free environment.
Refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the tournament, allowing attendees to enjoy the games while supporting the venue and helping cover operational costs.
For group-stage matches, there will be a modest $5 cover charge. Capacity permitting, payment at the door will also be accepted. The cover charge helps offset the costs associated with hosting the events and ensures that those who register have a reasonable opportunity to secure a seat.
As the tournament progresses into the knockout stages, admission pricing may increase modestly depending on the match and venue requirements.
More Than Just Soccer
While the matches themselves will be the main attraction, events like these also provide opportunities to connect with neighbours, meet new people, and strengthen community ties.
In a time when many people report feeling increasingly isolated despite being more digitally connected than ever, shared experiences matter. Gathering around a game, celebrating a goal, or discussing a controversial referee decision may seem simple, but these moments help create the sense of belonging that many people are seeking.
This spirit of connection is reflected in several community initiatives taking place at Collaburo this year, including projects focused on friendship, networking, and community engagement.
Celebrating Our Diversity
One of the most beautiful aspects of the World Cup is how it reminds us that diversity and unity can coexist. On any given match day, supporters of different countries may sit side by side, each passionately supporting their team while sharing the same excitement and appreciation for the game. The tournament creates opportunities for people to celebrate their heritage while also building bridges with others.
Whether you're supporting your homeland's team or team Canada, or both, the World Cup offers an opportunity to come together through a shared love of sport.
The FIFA World Cup kicks off this week, and Collaburo will be featuring selected group-stage matches starting Friday, June 12 at 3 PM with Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Whether you plan to attend with family, friends, or on your own, we invite you to join us for what promises to be an exciting month of soccer, conversation, and community.
After all, some of the best World Cup memories are not only about the games themselves, but about the people we experience them with.
