This Ramadan Over 300 Muslim Institutions and Mosques Will Not Platform Any Elected Officials Unwilling To Address Palestinian Human Rights
Written by National Council of Canadian Muslims Published in News
Over 300 Muslim institutions and mosques across Canada have issued a joint letter with one simple message to all Members of Parliament:
Don’t expect to enter any of our spaces this Ramadan until you've committed to:
- Condemning the war crimes being committed by Israeli forces;
- Supporting an immediate ceasefire urgently needed to protect civilians sheltering in Rafah and beyond;
- Demanding the immediate resumption of funding for UNRWA, a lifeline for millions of refugees which was suspended without reasonable basis;
- Opposing the flow of arms and military equipment to the Netanyahu government, which, as confirmed by the ICJ, is engaged in plausible genocide and
- Standing in defence of civil liberties, including the right of Canadians to express solidarity with the Palestinian people without fear of reprisal.
As we gather this month in our sacred spaces, adhering to these commitments is the least MPs must do to show that they stand with us to uphold Palestinian human rights and the humanitarian values that underpin Ramadan.
