The Canadian-Muslim Vote Launches Campaign to Mobilize Estimated Half Million Muslim Voters in Ontario Election
Written by The Canadian Muslim VoteThe Canadian-Muslim Vote (TCMV) launched its Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Campaign for the 2022 Ontario Election on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at its Oakville office on 2650 Bristol Circle.
TCMV estimates there are about 500,000 Ontario Muslim voters to mobilize this election, based on Statistics Canada tabulations and models, who have the numbers to change the outcome in nearly 50 ridings according to projections from 338Canada.com. TCMV’s campaign includes two Muslim Vote Weekends May 20-22 and 27-29, a road trip across the province from Ottawa to Windsor in between, as well as several volunteers phone banking, door knocking, and distributing leaflets with participation from mosques and community centres across Ontario.
“Over past elections the Muslim community has become increasingly active and The Canadian-Muslim Vote’s Get Out The Vote Campaign will take Muslim political participation to new heights in Ontario,” TCMV Director Umair Ashraf explained. “Our message ‘You are loudest when you vote!’ is already resonating in 40 mosques and community centres across 20 cities that host our volunteers engaging with Muslims. With the election already an extremely close race Muslim voters are one of the game changers in deciding who will be the next Premier.”
