National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is calling for the RSS Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh To Be Banned in Canada
Written by National Council of Canadian MuslimsAsalamu alaikum / Peace be upon you
One of the world’s largest exporters of Islamophobia is the RSS - the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh - in India.
They are an alt-right paramilitary terrorist group with deep ties to the Modi government and who are responsible for enormous atrocities in India, including the demolition of mosques and communal violence against Muslims.
We’ve seen that come to Canada too.
In the last few years, we [National Council of Canadian Muslims NCCM], along with many organizations, have been pushing for action on the RSS.
We put out a report that received national coverage on the RSS’ activities here in Canada.
This year, we led an advocacy day in Ottawa, meeting with elected officials in all parties and pushing for three things:
- The removal of the Indian High Commissioner in Canada given the attacks on Canadian dissidents
- The banning of the RSS here in Canada under the Criminal Code
- A parliamentary study on India’s foreign interference here in Canada
And in the last few weeks, as more news began to validate what we’ve been saying for years, we saw many of our asks begin to come to fruition.
We saw a parliamentary study begin, supported by all parties, on Indian foreign interference.
We saw the removal of the Indian High Commissioner.
We saw a clear call for the RSS to be banned by Leader Jagmeet Singh.
But to be clear - we won’t stop until the RSS is banned.
We’ll need your help to do so.
We’ll need your help to fund our advocates, journalists, lawyers, and so much more.

One year ago, Stephen Brown, CEO of NCCM, stood with Canadian Sikh leaders at the House of Commons and called for the expulsion of India’s diplomats after the assassination of dissidents here in Canada.
Watch NCCM's CEO call for the banning of RSS in Canada during this press conference back in September 2023, after the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
