Islamophobia
Israel’s War on Gaza & Canada’s foreign policy
The story of Muslims in Canada began in 1851 when a Scottish couple, Mr. James Love and his wife, Agnes, arrived on the shores of Canada. The first known Canadian-born Muslim was their son, James Love Jr.
Fast forward to 2024, and there are nearly 2 million Muslims who call Canada home, with approximately 12% to 14% of this population living and working in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) where they have forged success and built legacies for their future generations.
But while professional success has come quickly, the community’s civic engagement has lagged, particularly in terms of exercising their fundamental democratic right to vote. However, as the Muslim population in Canada has grown, so has their recognition of the power they hold to effect political change and influence decision-making.
As the 2025 federal election revs up, political analysts are already considering the significant impact that Muslim voters can have in over a dozen GTA ridings, where they represent between 16% and 26% of the total votes.
This demographic has the potential to swing elections. But to do that, Canadian Muslims must make informed decisions that are crucial both for themselves individually and for their community.
This was the spark that inspired Muslim Network TV to plot their next introduction. A TV program for Muslims living in the GTA. Or GTA MUSLIMS TODAY!
This new program features curated news pieces, one-on-one chats with political candidates, discussions of public opinion, and both local and international community issues that concern Canadian Muslims.
