With much anticipation, the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) and its partners are excited to release an 80-page toolkit based on a national study conducted over the past 1.5 years, seeking to understand gender-based violence (GBV) during the pandemic within the South Asian community in Canada.

The sense of belonging that immigrants develop with their host society is not very often reflected in media coverage or speeches by public figures, which tends to focus on activism. What makes immigrants feel like they are part of their host society is, above all, having their basic needs met.

Pakistani Canadian Rubab Qureshi represented the riding of Edmonton Mill Woods, Alberta at Equal Voice’s second Daughters of the Vote gathering in early April 2019, which brought together 338 young women between the ages of 18 and 23, representing each Canadian riding and take their seat in the House of Commons during a historic sitting of the House of Commons. They were addressed by every federal party leader, and engaged with an array of Ministers, critics and advocates.
