Police Arrested 14, Including a Rabbi; Three MPs Stood in Solidarity with Protestors
Montreal, November 15, 2024 — This Saturday, November 16, hundreds of people will gather outside of 15 factories and facilities across the country to expose Canada’s involvement in the production and maintenance of the F-35 fighter jets that are devastating Gaza and Lebanon, and to demand that Canada impose an immediate, two-way arms embargo on Israel.
September 10th, 2024 – Today, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly held a press conference where she stated, "We will not have any arms or parts of arms be sent to Gaza. Period."
As part of the $20B arms package just approved by the United States Congress, the US will be purchasing $83.7M (CAD) worth of mortars, made in Quebec.
We were shocked to learn that Canada is about to allow 50,000 “high explosive” mortars to be transferred to the Israeli military, even as it commits a genocide in Gaza.
Canada cannot allow this shipment of 50,000 explosives to go ahead. Just earlier this year, grassroots pressure led Parliament to vote to stop sending weapons to Israel. This shipment blatantly violates the will of Parliament and there is no question that these weapons will be used against civilians in Gaza. Canada has an obligation to intervene.
Send an email to Foreign Affairs Minister Joly, other key federal leaders and your local MP. Block this shipment of explosives and impose a full two-way embargo on Israel now!
A large protest is blocking the entrances to CANSEC, North America's biggest weapons and military convention. Hundreds of demonstrators are confronting representatives of Israeli and Canadian militaries and weapons companies over their complicity in the killing of more than 36,000 Palestinians in Gaza as Israel has carried out a prolonged assault from the air, sea and on the ground over the past seven and a half months. The criminality of Israel's actions, and of Canada's complicity with them, is underscored by the horrific killing of 45 Palestinians by an Israeli air strike on a camp for displaced people in Rafah. At least 23 women and children died in the attack, many burned to death as fire engulfed their tents.
Montreal, May 7, 2024 — Canadian civil society organizations across multiple sectors are escalating their push to end Canada’s trade in military and security technology with Israel. In a joint statement issued today for an “Arms Embargo Now,” Palestinian associations, labour unions, human rights organizations, and community groups representing more than 2 million people across Canada are calling on the Canadian government to utilize new and powerful tools to definitively end military trade with Israel, including immediately implementing an official arms embargo using Canada’s Special Economic Measures Act.
Montreal, March 18, 2024 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) Vice President Michael Bueckert has issued the following statement in response to this evening’s vote by the House of Commons on an NDP Opposition Day motion on Palestine:
Montreal, February 10, 2024 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is incensed to learn that Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly has been deliberately misleading the Canadian public in claiming that Canada hasn’t sent weapons to Israel since Oct. 7, whereas new information reveals the opposite.
February 5th, 2024 Dear Minister Joly,
We, the undersigned civil society organizations, have profound concerns about the legal and humanitarian implications of Canada’s transfer of weapon systems to the government of Israel. These concerns have only been amplified following the January 26th provisional ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Amidst the harrowing attacks on the Palestinian people, people in Canada are engaging in a bold act of solidarity to force our government to end its complicity in genocide. People in Canada from coast to coast have joined a rotating hunger strike for Gaza.
