Featured Speakers:
Sevim Kalyoncu is an Environmental Educator who serves as the executive director of Green Muslims, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization working to help connect the American Muslim community with nature and climate action. She speaks at local mosques, leads educational nature hikes, and puts together environmental education programming through Green Muslims’ Our Deen (Faith) is Green! youth education program and From the Ground Up! adult environmental education classes. Through this work, she strives to encourage a spiritual connection with nature as well as environmental and climate awareness that is rooted in an Islamic understanding of environmental stewardship. In addition to her work with Green Muslims, Sevim teaches nature and outdoor-skill classes through schools and homeschool programs and volunteers as a master naturalist.
Shaykh Sadique Pathan is a community leader, spiritual counsellor, registered social worker, and therapist. He is the Outreach Imam of Al Rashid Mosque in Edmonton, Alberta, and works as a Senior Community Engagement Specialist at Islamic Relief Canada. Imam Sadique Pathan holds a Bachelor of Social Work Degree and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Dalhousie University. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Usool al-Deen) from the University of Jordan Faculty of Islamic Studies.
Zeba Warsi is a Peabody award-winning broadcast journalist from India, with a decade-long experience covering climate change, human rights, women and international affairs. She's currently based in Washington D.C. as the Foreign Affairs Reporter/Producer for PBS NewsHour where she covers international news with a focus on human-centric stories and long-form special projects. She was a leading member of the NewsHour team that won the 2024 Peabody award for News for their coverage of the war in Israel and Gaza, which is also nominated for this year's Emmy Awards. For the last couple of years, Warsi has covered the brutal wars in the middle east, Sudan and Ukraine with an emphasis on human suffering. She's also led the show's coverage the devastating twin eartheuqakes that hit Turkiye and Syria, and climate crisis in East Africa.
Hebah Kassem is the Founder and President of VisionaryEdge, a political firm providing policy, legislative, political, and other services to global and domestic NGOs, foundations, and political campaigns in Washington D.C. and other states. She has substantial experience in public health, environment and climate justice policy, legislative affairs, community & grassroots organizing, and political strategy. She has served in leadership roles with a number of organizations including Just Solutions Collective, The Sunrise Project, Sierra Club, Green New Deal Network, Congressional Progressive Caucus Center, Michigan Public Health Institute, as well as political campaigns across the country. Hebah holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan.
