The story of the Indonesian Society of Manitoba (ISM) began with the mandate from the Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia, Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the Indonesian community in Manitoba, Canada to participate in Folklorama as a new Indonesian pavilion.
The purpose is to promote Indonesian culture and to strengthen the bond among the Indonesian community members in Manitoba.
This brought the Consulate General's team to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in a meeting on November 16th, 2015, with the local representatives from the respected fellows of the community, also the inspiring members of the student group (Indonesian Group of Winnipeg or IGW) and the traditional Indonesian dance group (Colours of Indonesia).
The whole team met with Folklorama representatives the next day and the insightful meeting encouraged all the Indonesian team members to proceed with the plan.
The name Indonesian Society of Manitoba Incorporated was reserved on December 15th, 2015 and the not-for-profit organization was officially incorporated on December 23rd, 2015.
