The Ottawa Muslim Women’s Organization was established in September 2001, shortly after the September 11 attacks. Approximately 50 Muslim women from diverse origins and ethnic backgrounds decided to form an organization with the objective of building bridges with other faith groups and the larger community of Ottawa. In addition, the women decided to address the many misconceptions of Islam. Today, the Ottawa Muslim Women’s Organization is proud to count Muslim and non-Muslim members of both genders who work together to promote positive change in our community.
